Who can attend WESMUN?

WESMUN is a university-level model United Nations conference that is open to undergraduate students from all universities. If you are in graduate studies please contact us directly to see if an exception can be made.

 

Can Western students attend WESMUN?

Western students can absolutely attend WESMUN. Attend a club meeting or email secgen@uwomun.org for more information. 

 

What is the dress code?

The dress code for WESMUN is typical of a MUN conference in that we require Western Business Attire to be worn at all times. If however, a delegate wishes to don attire that is considered traditional or business appropriate in the country they are representing they may do so. However, it must be stressed that while the policy allows for this it must be done in a respectful and appropriate way. The Secretaries-Generals will use their discretion on the days of the conference to determine if a delegate is taking advantage of this policy.

Can high school students participate? 

We have a separate conference reserved specifically for high school students in winter 2020. Please email secgen@uwomun.org if you wish to be added to the mailing list. 

 

Where can I eat on campus? 

Delegates can find a comprehensive list of all campus eateries here.

 

The most common choices for food on campus are found at the University Community Center! Some options there include Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Subway, Bento Sushi, a food court with pita pit and burger spot, and the Spoke. 

 

What’s the wifi password? 

The large majority of universities have access to the eduroam wifi network. To login, use your university email account to login.

What is the WESMUN drinking and drug use policy at the social event? 

Western MUN is enforcing a zero tolerance for underage drinking. Western MUN is not liable for any damages, thefts, or injuries due to activities at after-conference socials. Delegates will be able to buy alcohol at the post-conference social event, but are strongly encouraged to drink responsibly. Western MUN reserves the right to ask delegates to leave the social events if it is deemed that they are causing undue risk to themselves and those around them. However, if upon further escalation it becomes necessary to involve law enforcement then the proper authorities will be contacted. Further information can be found in conference policies

 

What should I do if I experience harassment or other inappropriate behaviour at the conference?

If this behaviour occurs during committee sessions, please let your chair know immediately. They will then address the situation appropriately, with the highest levels of respect and privacy. Should such inappropriate behaviour happen at the socials or during breaks, please let any member of staff know (identifiable by badge), and they will be addressed by the secretary generals as soon as possible. If my faculty advisor, head delegate, or other delegates from our university have questions on the day of the conference, who should we contact? 

On the day of the conference,  please feel free to approach any member of the secretariat. Otherwise, feel free to approach the chair in committee and they will be more than happy to direct a member of staff to you.


What is WESMUN’s accessibility policy?

The Secretariat will take every step possible to ensure the conference is accessible to all delegates. Please email secgen@uwomun.org with any questions about the conference’s accessibility or your individual needs. 

Registration and Finance

When does registration open?

Early bird registration opens on August 5th, while regular conference registration opens September 14th. 

 

When does registration close?

Registration will be closing on October 6th. 

 

How do I register?

The registration tab found on the website, put the link here, is the where the step by step process can be found. However, the general idea is that you must contact your head delegate to indicate interests and all relevant information to them and they will them register you and the rest of the delegation while making one single payment for said delegation. The email address that you then provided will be used to contact you with all relevant information.

 

How much is the registration fee?

The registration fee is $50 per delegate. Early bird registration is available at a reduced price of $40 per delegate if registration is completed by September 14th.

 

I can’t find the delegation fee, how much is it?

WESMUN has waived all delegation fees to increase financial accessibility.

 

When are payments due?

To qualify for early bird registration, payments are due in full on September 14th. Hotel and regular registration payments are due in full on October 6th. 

 

How can I pay?

Upon registering on our website, you will be contacted by the secretariat to arrange payment. We accept cheque or online payment.

 

Is early conference sign-in available for those of us travelling to London?

There is an early sign-in option for those travelling into London from outside the city. We will be holding a table at Delta Armories hotel from 5pm-9pm on Friday October 25th. 

 

How many members can a delegation have?

Although we ask delegation to limit the number of delegates to 30, larger delegations may be accommodated if registration is completed within the Early Bird period. 

Are any WESMUN committees open to double delegations?

Unfortunately, there are no committees at WESMUN accommodating double delegations.

 

Are independent delegates welcome?

Yes, independent delegates are absolutely welcome to attend. In fact, we strongly encourage all independent delegates to register. Further information on how to register as an independent delegate can be found here (insert link). 

I can’t make it to the conference. How do I get a refund?

Delegates will be provided a full refund if requested by 23:59 on October 10th. After this time, a strict no refund policy will be followed. 

Hotel and Transportation

 

What is the price of the hotel?

Our discounted hotel price for registering with the conference will be $139 per night 

 

How do I get to London?

Transportation to London is detailed in our delegate brochure

 

How can I get to campus? 

Closer to the official date of the conference secretariat will be sending out emails that contain which buildings (on Western’s main campus) each committee will be held in. To get from your hotel in downtown london a general guide will be available on the website, however it is highly recommended that to avoid confusion delegates use google maps to arrive. Once on campus clear signs will up to assist in finding the appropriate buildings.

Is WESMUN organizing transportation from the hotel to campus?

WESMUN will be providing LTC bus tickets to get to and from the university and hotels on all of the conference days. Transportation will not be provided for the social.

Committee 

 

How will committee assignments work and when can I expect committee assignments?

Head delegates will receive a list of their delegation’s committee positions from the Secretariat on October 11th. It will be the head delegates’ responsibility to assign committee positions to their delegation, and their list of assignments will be due on October 15th. If not received by this date, the Secretariat will randomly assign committee positions. Individually registered delegates will be sent a committee position and will have the opportunity during registration to indicate their committee preferences, however delegates are not guaranteed their first choice of committee. 

 

Are position papers required?

The WESMUN policy for position papers is that in order to be in consideration for an award one must submit a position papers prior to 11:59 pm on October 23rd. If you do not submit one you can still participate in the conference but you will be ineligible for awards. Papers should be at minimum one page long single spaced and address the topics directly from your countries’ perspective, not your own.   

 

Where can I submit my position paper?

Position papers will be submitted digitally via a link sent to delegates closer to the conference date.

 

What is the WESMUN technology policy?

WESMUN will be practising a no technology policy during committee sessions. Paper will be provided for both writing resolutions and passing notes, but please feel free to bring your own to reduce conference waste.

 

I’m a first time MUN delegate, what can/should I do to prepare for the conference? 

Our important documents section details our rules of procedure, guidelines on how to write position papers, how to write resolutions and a delegate rubric our chairs will refer to in order to nominate certain delegates for awards.
